The Embankment @ Five Corners In-Person

Join us for a presentation and discussion about preserving The Embankment as a natural space for all JC residents. Presented by The Embankment Preservation Coaltion.

What is the Embankment?

The Embankment is a massive stone rail structure on 6th Street in Downtown Jersey City. It runs from Brunswick Street east to Marin Boulevard, near the Newport Mall. It is part of the longer Harsimus Branch, the Pennsylvania Railroad freight line that contributed to the shape and character of Jersey City neighborhoods.

What's Next?

Nature moved in as the trains moved out, creating meadows and forest. Residents founded the Embankment Coalition to preserve the site for open space, trail, and possible future light rail. The Coalition's ecology vision for the site’s treatment can serve as a model for the City of Jersey City’s emerging trail system.

*Supported by public funds from the Jersey City Arts and Culture Trust.
