Inside Out: Paintings by Jamarr Neyland Artist Reception + Talk In-Person

As an African American visual artist, I often create representational images to show the history of my culture and images sparked by my current occupation as an educator. I draw inspiration from diverse sources, incorporating my encounters with people and places. My artistic journey has evolved to explore the theme of memory, particularly those formed during my youth in Ohio. These memories serve as the underpinning of my work, guiding my brush to capture not just moments but the emotional landscapes that define them. My work invites viewers to reflect on their journeys and to find common ground in the shared experience of growing up.

Jamarr (J.R.) Neyland is a Jersey City, New Jersey-based visual artist. A native of Toledo, Ohio, he holds an M.S. in Education, specializing in Childhood Learning and Behavior Disability. He is currently working on his Master of Fine Art at Savannah College of Art and Design. He currently teaches art at Peshine Avenue Elementary School in Newark, NJ. His mixed-media artwork, primarily in acrylic and oil, draws inspiration from his Midwestern upbringing, cultural experiences, and his work as an educator.
