Explore the colorful world of historic atlases and maps from the New Jersey Room's collection. Each week during our Summer Learning Program we will highlight a rarely seen item.

For week one we present a double feature of water-related maps. One of the most colorful items of the series is the Northern New Jersey River Drainage ap, 1876-1877 from the Geological Survey of NJ.

We pair this with the only manuscript (original hand drawn) item, a collection of surveys of lands controlled by the Jersey City Water Works as a system to supply the growing city with sufficient safe water was being developed.
