JWEE 1975; Women's Quest for Everest - Free Movie Screening In-Person
Free Screening of the Documentary “JWEE 1975: Women’s Quest for Everest”
May 16, 1975 marked a historic moment as Junko Tabei became the first woman to summit Mount Everest (8,848 meters / 29,029 feet). Part of the pioneering Japanese Women’s Everest Expedition—a team of 15 diverse Japanese women—Tabei's achievement defied the prevailing belief that "women can’t climb Everest." Against social prejudice, fundraising challenges, and unexpected setbacks, the team's unity, grit, and courage made the impossible a reality. Notably, only eight expeditions worldwide had successfully reached the top of Everest prior to their achievement.
