Akira - Film Screening and Talk In-Person

Join us at Five Corners for a screening of the anime classic Akira. Hosted in conjunction with NJCU's Professor of Art History and Japanese Popular Culture, Midory Yoshimoto, PhD, the screening will be followed by a discussion of the film's importance as it relates to both anime history, and the genre of apocalyptic films which followed the civilian bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. With the 80th anniversary of the bombings on Aug 6th and 9th, the film's portrayal of the dangers and threat of nuclear annihilation are just as relevant today as they were when the film and manga were first released more than 30 years ago.
