The Truth and Journey Behind My Artwork

Summary

This author’s artwork is deeply rooted in personal and ancestral history, reflecting the legacy of African descent shaped by enslavement, resilience, and spiritual connection to homeland. A transformative journey to Senegal inspired both profound grief and healing, leading to the creation of art that honors ancestors not as victims, but as triumphant spirits in their full beauty and royalty. Through vibrant, richly colored series, the artist documents Black experiences, embracing heritage, grief, and the message to celebrate Blackness in all its glory.

Origins and Identity

My artwork is fundamentally shaped by the chain of events and circumstances that have defined my identity as a person of African descent. My lineage traces back to ancestors who were violently uprooted from their homeland, enslaved, subjected to unimaginable cruelties, and forced to build wealth for their oppressors. While eventual freedom was attained, the reality of true liberation remained elusive. Yet, through all adversity, my people have endured and thrived, drawing strength from the essence of Africa within us.
